List of BTech Degrees at NU

NIIT University offers the following list of BTech Engineering Degrees:

In each of the above degrees listed above, NIIT University offers specialisations that allow a student to acquire a further degree of proficiency in an area that is of current or future value to industry or research.

In today’s digital age, careers across all industries are going through a transformation. As the world evolves, especially after the pandemic of 2020, job trends are also changing. According to a recent release by NASSCOM, the skills of the future would be Big Data Analytics, Cloud & Cybersecurity Services, IoT, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and many other Digital Technologies. A huge demand is foreseen for roles such as mobile app development, social media, AI and Data science and platform engineering. All of NU’s above-mentioned BTech degree programmes are designed to meet the demands of the ever-evolving world of technology and science.

NIIT University focuses on ensuring that aspiring engineering graduates of the campus are a part of these exciting careers of the future. NU’s 4 core principles – Industry-linked, Technology-based, Research-driven and Seamless – play a critical part in achieving this.

BTech: Approach, duration, syllabus & structure

Through a transformational approach, involving multidisciplinary courses of Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Laboratory Work, R&D & capstone projects and Industry Practice, in addition to other co-curricular components, NU’s BTech degree programme seeks to create exceptional professionals trained to lead in tomorrow’s complex technology-oriented business environment

The 4-year BTech degree programme comprises 8 semesters. The programme is categorised into:

  • Humanities, Mathematics, Basic Sciences & Management – To develop analytical ability and acquire interdisciplinary knowledge
  • Professional Core – To gain proficiency in the domain area
  • Professional Electives – To specialize in an industry-specific domain
  • R&D Project – To inculcate a strong research bent of mind
  • Capstone Project – To acquire the skills needed to work in complex and collaborative work environments
  • Open Electives – To orient towards professional interests that intersect different domains
  • Activity Oriented Courses – To hone the personality traits necessary for holistic development
  • Industry Practice/Research Practice – To connect seamlessly with the world of work through industry work or research

BTech at NU: Focused on activity-oriented courses for holistic development

NU offers activity-oriented and credit-based courses for BTech degree students.

It is a well-recognised fact that success in the world of work is not achieved merely by being good in a specialised domain of knowledge, but it is also determined by the non-academic attributes or qualities possessed by an individual, such as collaboration, team work, ability to withstand time pressure without loss of focus, planning and organising abilities, leadership, etc.

The co-curricular activities undertaken in the numerous clubs at NU in arts, photography, robotics, drama, etc. impart the above qualities essential for competitive survival in the professional world, but they lie totally outside the ledger of academic accounting.

To correct this myopic view, BTech degree students can, apart from the regular courses from Humanities & Social Sciences, choose courses based on activities undertaken in the clubs outside the classroom. The necessary academic rigor has been defined to give academic credits to these activity-based courses.

BTech at NU: Experiential learning and a unique industry practice at the core

Industry Practice (IP), a pedagogic innovation of NU, conducted at the site of the organisation provides students with an opportunity to gain experience working in inter-disciplinary teams on real on-going projects. During IP, students are guided by a dedicated faculty mentor, an onsite mentor and an industry mentor from the organization. Besides technical skills, the IP semester of the BTech degree programme also helps build strong professional skills including planning, problem-solving, time management, written and verbal communication, cost management, team-work, meeting deadlines, initiative, confidence to complete a task, integrity and customer communication.

Minors for BTech students

The Minor programme at NU is a separate optional certificate programme for BTech degree students that runs in parallel to the degree programme and is offered in areas of study other than the discipline of degree programme. It allows a student to acquire expertise in complementary disciplines thus expanding their horizons and helping them add value to the industry. Students will receive separate certificates and transcripts on successful completion of the Minor programme.

Currently minors are offered in:

  • Finance (for all BTech programmes)
  • Business Analytics (for all BTech programmes)
  • Entrepreneurship (for all BTech programmes)

Eligibility for BTech

NIIT University uses a unique admission process, our proprietary Admission Interaction Process to on-board students. It is applicable for students applying for any of the BTech courses that NU offers. While academic excellence in qualifying examinations is an important parameter, we also give weightage to a student’s motivation and drive to learn and succeed. To qualify for Admission Interaction Process, the student has to show a minimum academic performance in school examinations.
