Your 4-Year Curriculum Overview
Learn engineering basics and technical skills, participate in the Learners' Premier League
Build your knowledge base in life sciences, learn to efficiently use high-end laboratory instruments
Execute Research Projects, deep-dive into specializations and pick cross-disciplinary electives
6-month to 1-Year hands-on experience in the industry to learn real-world application of skills before you graduate
Research isn't optional: it's built into your degree with the intent of building a research mindset- frame scientific questions, design experimental strategies, and generate evidence-based solutions. From semester 5 onwards, you'll work on structured research projects under faculty mentors (Capstone in semester 5 + R&D Project in semesters 6 & 7). You'll be encouraged to present at conferences, and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Our recent graduates have authored papers on emerging areas such as cancer detection algorithms, CRISPR applications, and antimicrobial nanocomposites.
See Research Projects & PublicationsYou'll acquire skills that matter to employers. Our graduates work at leading biotech companies - Cipla, Biocon, Syngene; and in research at institutions like CSIR labs, IIT labs, and DBT-funded centers. Recent data shows industry demands for freshers in the areas of bioinformatics, AI in healthcare, quality assurance, medical biotechnology, and biopharmaceutical production- areas our students are trained to excel in.
You will also have an opportunity to pitch business ideas as part of Capstone project-2. As part of Industry Practice (IP), you will work at leading biotech organizations and research institutions for six months or one year, graduating with practical orientation facing the industry interface.
You'll train on instruments that research scientists use daily. NU’s integrated Biotechnology Lab facilities provide expertise in advanced instrumentation including PCR, HPLC, Gas Chromatography, Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows- ensuring technical competence and professional readiness. According to our alumni survey, >90% of graduates say their lab training gave them a competitive edge in placements and higher education, and helped them perform well in the industry.
Students at NU are given occupational, spatial and temporal freedom. The programme reflects the idea of seamlessness and encourages interdisciplinary exploration across biotechnology & bioinformatics, computer science, electronics & communication, AI/ML, and management. You will have the flexibility to undertake cross-domain electives and R&D projects, enabling them to integrate biology with computation, engineering principles, and innovation strategy. This holistic academic model prepares you for leadership roles in research, industry, and biotechnology entrepreneurship.
